Project
Learning & Capability Development: Structured On-the-Job Training (S-OJT) – Commercial Bank of Ethiopia

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE)
Ethiopia’s largest state-owned commercial bank, serving millions of customers nationwide and playing a central role in the country’s financial sector.
The Challenge
CBE faced the challenge of scaling its workforce while maintaining high service standards, with traditional classroom-based training proving costly and insufficient in bridging the gap between theory and practical application.
- 1High cost of traditional training delivery models
- 2Limited transfer of theoretical knowledge to real workplace application
- 3Need for faster onboarding and skill acquisition at scale
- 4Operational inefficiencies and error rates linked to training gaps
Our Solution
i-Capital Africa Institute designed and implemented a Structured On-the-Job Training (S-OJT) framework, shifting learning from the classroom to the workplace using the 70:20:10 model.
- 1Developed a structured S-OJT framework with certified internal trainers mentoring staff in real time
- 2Embedded learning within day-to-day operations through workplace-based modules
- 3Designed and executed pilot programmes in Bole and Kirkos districts
- 4Applied a data-driven approach to validate effectiveness prior to national rollout
